Grapevine

- Wayne, Eddie, Deron and Frank to resign from the tribal council. ***Oi! Lovely news all around*** It's a start to turn things around for the Tribe.
- Larry will resign if he receives six months severance pay. Bah, humbug
- The attorney general will recommend to the tribal council that Larry be rehired if the referendum results in his job termination. *Larry/Laurie referendum on July 16th*
No quorum for the tribal council in ages. Apparently everyone just mumbled "I'm going to resign" and then took off for a vacation. These people need to stop wasting the Tribe's time and officially resign.

  1. Larry's Letter to the Tribe
I think it's all good that Larry write a letter to the Tribe about recent activities here on our settlement..but my only objection is to his wording..using the words Mobbed and Keith Davenport followers and then of course those affiliated with the Walkers...I think his wording or thought thou his letter should have read "Tribal Members" instead of labeling the people who stood up for change and wanted action instead of ridicule. This is what I mean when change needs to come..Larry's mindset is set in stone and doesn't seem to want to play on a level field and that's the sad part. As soon as someone rocks the boat or makes a comment about the way things are...right away there is a hanging party...just like the people that stood with the Walkers..they all got hung out to dry and not only that...salt was added to their wounds...this is NOT the kind of leadership we need on our Settlement...we need leaders that stand for all members of this Tribe...and not to exclude those to stand to differ. So Larry..to some you may have done a good job..but we need someone who is there for the Tribe as a whole..not just for those who you see fit or members you call friends. I'm sure who ever reads this will get the picture. It's time people to pull our Tribe back together and all stride for the better of the Tribe and to look to the future TOGETHER and to treat all those with all the same respect.

  2. Right on! Solid Ground.. all we need is more folks who see like you do. They seem too busy running around fussin' about stuff that either is long gone or don't matter anyways. Typically these folks are easily offended and try to make others feel like they do.
I think it is abundantly clear that we cannot have people in leadership positions acting this way. We need leaders who are level headed enough that they are able to make sound decisions when it is needed. We need leaders who are not prejudiced against those who may have differing (political) views than their own. They gotta be able to listen to anyone who might have something to say. Our future leaders have gotta have respect for all members, regardless of issues. I could go on and on but I'll save it. Finally, let's add the most important point that we need these type of leaders NOW! Hows that for effect? we should all keep our eyes and ears open to see the potential electess. I hope some will come out now and show/tell us what they intend to do. Otherwise we will just be voting "in the dark" again...hmmm

  3. Larry is trying hard to divide and conquer. That is the only way he can stay as Director, cuz if all true meskwaki's got together and got our shit together, his kind wouldn't have a shot in hell at any attempt to direct and corrupt our tribe. He labels things and plp so he can look like the good guy, basically his tactics suck and so does he!! He labels plp so he can keep us divided and he is doing everything he can to keep it that way! No doubt he has some influence and direction from someone cuz he aint got the smarts to think that up by himself...lol

    Solid,

There was a hanging party this go round as well. A couple terminated employees (and their families) holding grudges and relying on their former "dissident" enemy, the Walker council's decision on removing key personnel within the tribe. Wasn't their entire family completely against the Walker council; preaching at every opportunity about how wrong and criminalistic they were? But once things didn't go their way, they were quick to use the same tribal council's decisions to benefit them?

I am not stating I am happy or sad that Larry and Laurie are gone, but the way in which the entire situation was handled was done poorly. They both have the option to file unemployment now. They will both still be getting paid from the tribe. They have the opportunity to appeal their terminations and go up the legal ladder to fight for their positions back.

I am not familiar with tribal operations policies, but other organizations and legal entities would view this as wrongful termination and is grounds for lawsuits. Now, would they sue their own tribe? Who is to say, but hopefully it does not come to this.

  5. This was not a "termination". They were removed by a "tribal constitutional" action. Anyone is entitled to sue whomever they wish. It would seem difficult to overturn the "voice of the people". They are the ones who elected to overturn the council's decision to retain them. As far as i know, there is no recourse. buy we'll see what happens..stranger things have happened.

Please don't try to play semantics. Termination is termination. Dictionary definition states: ending of employment with specific employer. Therefore, they were terminated!

The "voice" will hold little merit in the court room. The legal department of tribe refused to handle the case (saving face and hopefully their jobs IF the two are reinstated?!?) and outside legal resources were needed.

You simply reinforce what I stated. They overturned the former Walker council's decision to terminate and reinstate. Once the "family" was terminated and forced to resign from the tribal council, they used the same decision they supported in 2003 to rally a termination of Larry and Laurie. Bitterness of one family in my opinion.

  7. Sheeesh, still trying to create division. Let it go, mellow out already. It's ok to post opinions. That is all we are doing here. Why some have to get all emotional and start whining is kinda "out there". As my earleir post says.."we'll see happens".
On another note..if the legal dept were doing there jobs instead of claiming "conflict of interest" they would have taken the side of the tribe. Kinda shows who they THOUGHT they were working for..agree? Can't save a face that is already jammed up.
And the termination was not a conventional one. It was an act of a governmental process. Hardly a type of termination we see daily. But yes..you are right, it was a termination. I don't know why you put so much emotion into it. It's not personal. relax.

I don't see how it can be a conflict of interest. That's scary that the "tribal" lawyers did not want to be involved. Why?? But I bet they took their weekly paycheck. So we wasted more money on different lawyers? I thought we didn't have money to throw around. I'm going to bed! I got a headache now!!

What little policies and procedures that the tribe has as far as employment goes (that larry and laurie wrote, mostly to benefit them) says that the employees are "at will" meaning that an employee is employed at the will of the employer. An "at will" employer need not provide any reason for terminating an "at will" employee. It came back to bite them in the A_ _!
