Wow! Alot happened while I was away on holiday.

1. Nominations/special election
2. A new tribal council member
3. Larry/Laurie petitions were passed
4. A referendum on whether Larry/Laurie should be terminated from their jobs in 20+ days

  1. I don't know about Laurie but No, Larry should not be terminated. The only reason the petitions were started against Larry in the first place was because Keith Davenport got his shorts in a knot because Larry did his job and investigated the allegations that were made against Keith. That petition is a joke. There is no one else on the settlement that can do the job that Larry does. If there is, who and where are they? Everytime someone does what their job mandates they do - even when it isn't pleasant, people want to do away with them. If Larry didn't do his job, I could see terminating him but because he DID do his job - what a joke.

  2. Actually the petitions were initiated after folks saw how the executive director was overstepping the bounds of both his authority and the parameters of Meskwaki law. Keith's situtation had nothing to do with the petition as it was initiated way before.
The "mandates" of his employment/responsibilties do not include the unlawful guidance to negate any referendum. It does not allow him to avoid and skirt inquiries into tribal affairs by tribal members. And so on.
Sad, but no joke. I would never say it was all his fault because we have a system that allows it to occur for many reasons. However, as we have seen, it is a situation that we should not allow to happen again. There ARE others who are capable to do the job. Hopefully we can find someone who will perform the job they are supposed to do and stay away from making rules and policy that the position of executive director is not allwed to make. Now, if someone will start a petition to eliminate that idiot olsen then we are all good.

  3. the petitions were started when one employee was terminated for failing to perform up to her responsibilities in caring for patients (potentially life threatening in the final instance!). upon termination she ran to her brother on the council to seek help. this in turn forced him to overstep his boundaries as a council member, by foregoing rational thought and believing he could flex his tribal council muscle and get her reinstated. she was presented with opportunities to get her job back, however everyone was in agreement that she failed at her job and put a life of the tribe in danger.

anyone that lives around here, knows the story. how many jobs has she been terminated from as a result of her attitude or poor work performance?

those far away from the sett have little idea other than what information is being passed on to them. unfortunately most times, the information is biased in many ways.

    ANGRY,

YES, Larry did do his job. Sexual harassment of fellow co-workers is not a joking matter. had kieth made better decisions from the jump, he would not have been terminated. his own fault. he thought he could use his seat on the coucil and be untouchable. Larry has done an excellent job with the tribe. his sister, that is a whole other story....

  4. Sorry but the ouster of a councilmember is not part of the director's job. ONLY the council can do that. No doubt Larry did a good job in some instances, he has however overstepped his authority. There is still another sexual harassment case that has been shoved under the carpet. We'll see. But then again those "on the sett" know this already. Sometimes a person "far away" has better links than those who live there. No surprise there. When you have the opportunity to hear BOTH SIDES, it helps a person obtain a fair and unbiased view. Things seem to be coming to a head right about now and life will go on. I really wish all this talk of "different sides" will diminish and folks will face the challenges head-on together. NO-ONE likes the situation as it stands now, but we will never achieve a true common course while folks are at each others throats crying about "sides". Needs to stop.

  5. Keith made his bed and laid in it (unfortunately with another woman as well). Larry simply pointed out that Keith was continuously transgressing his boundaries. The rest of the tribal council agreed as Keith was irreverent to most he came in contact with. He approached staff and others outside of work and demanded his questions be answered. His code of ethics simply vanished. He forgot he was on the council to serve the people and not just his family.

The other sexual harrassment issue was dealt with appropriately and those involved were reprimanded. However, a family member seeking revenge for Keith attempted to press the issue hoping to stir up trouble. This same family member covered up minutes in the newsletter of Keith's "other" child by using his initials "K C Davenport" when the enrollment for the child was passed. Simply shows that this family will attempt to do anything to feign the truth.

  6. The above post is a clear example of someone unable to come to terms that we need to stop all the bickering. Continuing to point out things that are moot issues accomplishes nothing and causes additional angst among tribal members...both of which we do not need. As stated in the previous post, we tribal members need to really turn thngs around for the better. Alot of water has gone under the bridge, yet some still want to swim upstream against the tide. I will suggest AGAIN that we put away all differences and start to treat each other better. It can be done, it MUST be done. There are challenges coming down the pipe that we need to be ready for. We can see now that the table is set for change. Can we all put our best out to see that we make it better for all? I for one hope so.

  7. so the posts up above of your credence stating Larry's overstepping of boundaries are germane? i was simply pointing out that all of this fiasco with tribal council, petitions, etc is a result of one family passing deceptive information and creating "sides" again within the tribe.

even the referendum vote induced choosing sides once again. "Do you agree with Bear council?" Do you agree with Walker council". had the one family simply "put away their differences and started to treat each other better", the tribe could be moving forward instead of backwards.

approaching tribal members to sign a petition for their own agenda is inapt. but, i guess so long as things are going a specified way for a few members, we are all considered "turning around for the better".

  8. Meskwaki, i agree with you in that NOONE right now is truly acting civil. I did point out the "overstepping" item cited above. I did however do so after inquiring of the Director directly and with follow-up research to confirm that it indeed had happened. In my correspondence with all parties during these last tumultuous months, i gotta say that change was/is what was needed. Several issues of Tribal Constitutional violations really stood out in a lot of peoples' minds. As i have stated on many occasions, the lawyers could easily be tabbed as the culprit of most if not all our current troubles. I have mentioned before that the Director should perhaps in part be correctly called a victim. Due to lack of true government management protocol (in place), he was in a position where he had to perform his duties at the behest and with the (overbearing) bad advice of the aforementioned attorneys. Of course the tribal council would simply abide.
Now, since we are at this juncture of change, we can only go forward. Each change of the
past has brought the chance of decisions. Some of which will be difficult. What we can ill afford right now is more of the same. No more "closed" records and dealings. As tribal members, we are ALL entitled to know exactly what is going on behind any decision. When simple questions are asked, we deserve answers. Not the play of "charts" while being denied access to the financial records (casino) themselves. I merely point out that to get out of this..we gotta tolerate each others' views and contributions to move ahead...something hard to do while finger pointing at things that hardly matter and can not be substantiated. malo

  9. All you stupid posters on this so=called meskwaki tattle are worse than a bunch of old ladies, you sit here and bitch and moan and dont even got the balls to say who you are, i say f_ _ _ all ya'll. man up or shut the fuck up. At least keith and the plp on the council are man enough to fill those seats, the rest of you that nobody likes or trusts cant even get a chance, and believe me thats what it boils down too, you aint even man enough to get a seat, so if you cant speak your mind in public and say what you think in your own name, if you gotta sit behind a computer screen and anonymously say shit about others, you are worse than scum, your bullshit scum, so shut up or man up, fools!

It's called freedom of speech kid!! Even if someone did post their name it is in a meskwaki's nature to ignore and shun people. "Holding grudges" is what a meskwaki does best. We do not know how to accept changes or the truth so we either ignore them or attack them. Heavan forbid, a meskwaki can not tell someone they are right or give someone a pat on the back. We would rather stand back and watch someone fail and then give our insight. By posting without giving your name it is called venting and everyone, no matter what their view is, has a right to voice their opinion in an anonymous setting. This is not a communist site!! So if you do not like it, quit coming to this site. I enjoy reading everyone's point of view myself.
