Stumbled upon old papers. Is it 2009 or 2003? Creepy.

ATTENTION MESKWAKI PEOPLE!!!
NO PERCAP PAYMENTS, NO JOBS, NO SETTLEMENT SCHOOL, NO WATER, NO SEWER, NO GARBAGE PICKUP, NO CHILDRENS TRUST FUNDS, NO FUTURE!!!

AN OPEN LETTER TO COMMUNITY
The elected tribal council betrayed our trust. Their arrogance blinded them. They ignored the concerns of the people and set themselves up to be rulers , rather than representatives. They ignored the will of the people and refused to honor recall petitions. They have rejected our proposal to have an election. They have ignored the will of the people.

  1. Absolutely right! Now is the time for all the Council hopefuls to put their names out there. To turn this thing around and make sure the current events are put behind us, we need a new set of characters with character. Folks who will stand up and CHANGE all this stuff that has become a blight on the Meskwaki name. Folks who will reverse all the crap that now stands because an overzealous and "out-of-control" management. Change it all top down. First, GET RID of the Director and that excuse of an attoney, Olsen. Start by taking care of the people. The welfare of the tribal membership and what they need AND want are PRIORITY ONE. Make sure they will not be ignored ever again. There are bigger challenges coming down the road and this tribe and it's leadership had better be ready. So if any potential candidates or electors are reading this, put the word out and let the people know that NOW is the time to act. Do not wait till October. By then the opposition will have taken steps to entrench themselves (possibly ignore 2009 elections?) Make noise people.

  3. I saw that paper and had seen the action that a few young people had took along the road side. I also Remember people joking about how dire those individuals were making of the situation trying to scare people into their way of thinking. 6 years have passed and now we can reflect back and see who was actually telling the truth.

The first step in this debacle is finding trustworthy people who care about the well being of the Tribe and have the capacity to move forward in a positive manner to undo all the negative actions that has occured over the past few years.

  4. Has it been six years already? It still seems like yesterday to me.

  5. That is an interesting comment you made Induced. "Find trustworthy people who care about the well being of the Tribe and have the capicity to move forward in a possitive manner.........." Are any of you aware of the fact that most Casinos have a life span of 10 years before revenue starts to fall away? The Meskwaki Casino is on borrowed time if you read the reports in the gambling magazines out there. You need to continue to move this business forward in order to continue to attract outside guests to come visit us. What happens a few years down the road when/if the casino no longer generates the type of revenue it once did? Are you going to look back on this tribal council with disdain for not looking out for the future of the tribe by diversifying? The only reason people are pissed off is because their per cap was cut down. If the tribal council was doing what they are doing and you all were still getting your per cap payments - none of you would even care what was going on with the tribal council. How many of you attend your own tribal council meetings to hear and see exactly why things are being done the way they are? Even today with all the tribal unrest, very few tribal members bother showing up to hear what is going on for themselves. They rely on someone's aunt's counsin's brother to come back and tell them. What about the tribe's responsibility to their council? The council they elected?
