Keep us in the dark and we're left to imagine the worst

If, the tribal council hadn't gradually(getting bolder and bolder) lowered the percap down to $500 maybe I would believe the bollocks about the Tribe's financial woes. The tribal council saw that no one was going to stand up to them and they wanted to see just how far they could go. The percap stayed at $500 only because a lawsuit was filed against the Tribe. The tribal council didn't do anything else to cut down on the Tribe's expenses except make cuts that affected the tribal members. The Meskwaki people are obviously not the tribal council's first priority!

What the tribal council learned from the nine tribal members whose percap has been successfully withheld for 4 years: no percap, no resources to hire a lawyer, no resistance, no unforeseen problems from the tribal members. The tribal council cut our percap so that we would be a defeated people and then they would be able to accomplish whatever they wanted without any interference from us. What were they planning on doing?

  1. I know many agree with you on the idea that the people were not a priority. There are so many positions to cut. Many raises to forego. Private companies are taking pay cuts..hmmm.We really do not need a whole court system. The constitution is clear that the Council has adjudicating authority. If they needed a any legal advice on a decision, bam! get an attorney to help out. No real need to pay an extravagant amount of cash to Mr. Olson and his firm who add hourly charges when actually doing work for the tribe. Yeah..there are/were many ways to cut expenses. But, as we all see, only the members of the tribe felt the "cuts", wow.

  2. cut the courts and police force. the court system is not necessary. it is simply an added expense the tribe could do without.

the police force is similarly wasteful. what do they do? they drive around (in a new vehicle to top it off!!) and do nothing but waste gas. anyone they arrest is transported to tama county where the county receives all the revenue money from convictions. the grant for the police has been exhausted and they are now being paid out of revenue. the cost of the entire "force", vehicles, training, etc surely cannot offset the amount we paid to Tama Co sheriff's dept. at least the TCSD showed up when you called, actually investigated calls received and were in shape!!

  3. of course the exec. dir didnt care about the cuts when he makes close to 100,000 a year, well i guess i exaggerated, he only make 85,000 a year.

  4. Why don't you all stop blaming he council for every little thing that you see wrong with your own lives. Why not get a job and empower yourselves to live your own lives. Why is it always the council's fault when you are not getting out of life what you want. Get a backbone and make your own lives for goodness sakes. You all sound like a big bunch of babies.

When it comes to the exec. director - how many of you can do the job that he does? It's not that he does a bad job that has you all pissed off - it's that he does a good job doing a job none of you could step up and do. So what if he makes that kind of salary. He's also on the job 24 hours a day looking out for your low life asses - for which he doesn't get paid enough.

  5. Agreed Angry.

Larry has done an excellent job and has helped to guide the tribe for years. he recognized a council member stepping over his boundaries and called him on it and now one family cannot get over their borhter and sister being terminated and brother being removed from the council.

did Larry cause this? NO. the actions of those involved cost them their job and position on the council. get over it and quit trying to blame somebody else for your own faults.

yup larry has done a great job at guiding the tribe into an economic crisis. if he wasn't so obsessed with one council member maybe he could have done a good job.....no i doubt that cuz his mind was all about power, power, power and nothing else.
