  1. You know, i have said for a long time that we have no need for lawyers. Now i take a little of that back. I believe that there is a need for an attorney...just NOT full time. Lawyers have always sought to enrich themselves. Look at the amount he pulls down a year. (olson) THEN, look at who he works closely with. It is very apparent that he has managed to cajole others to join in a money grab at the tribal member's expense. Yeah...this lawyer does not work for the tribe, he works for the executive director and that close group of people in administration. I still say, get a potential group of candidates together and really make the council a lame duck. Come right out and say that things will be different. Who will be fired, which council actions will be negated and so on. To start this early will be a shot across tha bow of all those who either are in power or the ones like this lawyer, to know that it is time to take their act elsewhere. I also believe that the general membership is waiting and will support a group that announces that they will step up and accept the nominations/election as the new majority for change of the Fall 2009 council. Gotta be some good guys to fulfill the bill..hope so..

  2. Mr. Olsen a lawyer for the Meskwaki, but really he represents the tribal council and does their bidding. So far, Mr. Olsen is a master at creating havoc in an environment where checks and balance does not exist. And it is the tribal members who are left defending themselves in a tribal court Mr. Olsen established and the tribal codes he wrote are interpreted as law of the land. Sure, we need attorneys to help give legal advice and protect the tribe’s sovereignty. But in the end it is the tribal council who has abandoned its responsibilities and taken up the posture of representing themselves and not of the people.

  3. I do not know about Mr Olson but it doesn't matter who is on the elected tribal council - they get the same crap as the one before it. If certain people are not getting their own way, then it's time to replace them. So many Meskwakis out there are only out for themselves and want a council they can control for themselves and their families. What about what is good for the tribe as a whole - even if it means you have to step aside with your own personal concerns?

I'm probably going to sound stupid, but how long has the tribal council been in existence? 50-60 years? And now all of a sudden we need attorneys?
