why is larry lasley running the meskwaki tribe

Body: i guess i just dont get it, why is the meskwaki tribe letting larry lasley run the show, he doesnt even rightfully have the right to speak on our behalf. if ya'll remember, they were told to live there peacefully and not cause trouble and now he's on a power trip and will do anything to stay in power. he will never be able to be on the tribal council so the best he can ever hope for is executive director. and he dont even know what the hell he's doing. look at the shambles of the tribe now. he once told me that he saw this financial mess coming back as far as 2003 and did he do anything about it, NOOOOOOO! he just kept on like nothing was wrong. and now i hear he is working his ass off...meeting with lawyers in tama and trying to figure out a way to cause strife and turmoil among the tribal members! he has no business degree and yet he want s to sit at the helm of a multi million dollar tribal operation and get his name and picture in the paper, wise up dude, your a loser and a creep and you need to go back to school if you want to be the boss! as far as i can tell he has a social degree, so look out tammy, he may be demoted to your job. and then he can work with his other sister and be her boss. or maybe he can go to the clinic and clean up that fiasco and be his mom's boss, thats an idea, cuz no matter what department he goes to, he can be the boss of one of his family members...can u spell NEPOTISM????

  2. I don't get it either and here I thought larry lasely had a business degree this whole time. larry crossed the line as executive director when he wrote an open letter trying to dissuade people from signing petitions.

how about instead of posting a no good/keep off list, we focus on a good/put on list? i understand the disdain and ill feelings towards the current council but how can we ever expect to progress when we use negative energy to reinforce and justify our decision making. positive thinking, people.

  4. I agree with DW, theres enough negativity. We need Positive Change(s) to restore credibility and accountability back to the Meskwaki Tribal Council.

·Communication from the Council to the people needs to be enhanced. Not only as a whole, but also INDIVIDUALLY.
·Consistent communication among the people needs to be established.
·Accurate information should be readily available for ALL Tribal members.

  5. Positive Energy...I forget what that is...I've been thru soo much Negative I don't remember what Positive Energy even feels like...JK..but yes..we certainly need alot of Positives at this time. We need some new blood in our council..People who understand and are willing to uphold our Constitution in a positive and fair way..someone who is able to standup to negative feed and still focus on rebuilding our Settlement. There is alot of work that needs to be done and alot of support in order to put our community back on the right track

  7. Rather than looking for individuals to fill the council seats...FIRST look for "uniting principles". More important than just replacing a council member, is finding those who will actually make a difference. Need to find those who will bring not necessarily 'new' ideas, but to replace those ideas that have been removed and /or abandoned.
1). Honesty. Not just telling the truth, but the ability to say and do the things that lend credence to the right way of doing things ...all da time.
2).Communication. The ability to interact with different views and not enclose him/her self as the appointed "knowledgable one". One who will always RESPOND in kind to all communications from the membership. Always be there for open dialogue.
3). Stability. Council persons should be of stable thought and convictions. Not falling for every idea. The ability to stick to principles would be a welcome quality.
4). Wisdom-Maturity. We need people that possess the ability to make things right. To forgive when it is warranted and to execute justice when needed. No taking of "sides". To know which issues are most important. Diplomacy would an attendant quality.
5). Tough. The ability to make the right decisions even in adversity. This is NOT a popularity contest. No political correctness needed here. What is right is right. Too much is given to that white way of "not offending anyone." sorry, if it is a bad idea, then it wrong for the tribe. gotta be tough. ( not mean tho)
6). Patient. It is important that the new candidates-electees be patient in their approach to all the things that need fixing. The damage didn't happen in one day..get it?? Patience allows a council member to really study out an issue that needs it. We do not need those who totally rely on the advice of others. Sure, advice is good, but learn to make your own decisions based on what YOU know.
I won't go further. I hope i made sense to most. Sometimes in order to move forward we need to look at qualities..not individuals. I think it is a good thing that this forum allows us to voice our concerns. Maybe we will never see eye to eye..but in the end..we all the same koko (blood)..a hou!

  8. I agree with Uriah. Tell the Wanatees to get back into tribal politics.

  9. Larry is doing the job that he is doing because he is the only one on the settlement that has the intelligence and the education to do it. If any of you think you can do better, why haven't you applies?

The Wanatees are not more honest or dishonest than anyone else out there. And even if you had a whole council of Wanatees, it would only be a matter of time before they pissed you off and you'd be looking to get rid of them as well. So many of you are just looking for some group of people that will open the money coffers for you. There isn't any real concern for the future of the tribe - it's all about yourselves. I've been out there talking with my own group of elders and they point their fingers at this group that is intent on destroying the tribe for your own goals - it has nothing to do with doing what is best for the tribe as a whole - it's all about getting what you can get for nothing. Too much laziness in the neighborhood, not enough strong backs.
